Case Study:
MEET THE CANDIDATE VIDEO INTERVIEW
A first-time candidate needed to connect with voters. An edited video interview allowed her to talk about herself in an engaging way and a comfortable setting.
-
◈ Borrowing time between events, I sat the candidate down in her own living room, with natural light, my cell phone and a campaign intern with his DSLR camera.
◈ With prepared questions, I walked the candidate through important life events that taught her the values that guide her.
◈ I made sure to elicit lighter moments, highlighting her warm smile and laugh.
◈ We cut the interview into a 3-minute piece on candidate’s YouTube channel, and used segments as stand-alones for social media and fundraising emails.
The interview received the most engagement of all content on the campaign YouTube channel and short clips from it were easily repurposed. The candidate won a third of the vote, beating outside expectations and positioning her well for another run.
